AI is one of the newer technologies and plays a crucial role in helping wed designers to excel in their field. AI tools aid in the creation, maintenance and user experience of websites by analyzing and making predictions. AI can take data and provide guidance based on trends, patterns, and user behaviors they analyze. This can help designers to pick the right visuals and applications to ensure good web design and website popularity. In addition to that, artificial intelligence can also provide personalization to users of some degree. Because these technologies are able to analyze and see patterns, they can modify according to the user's needs in real-time. After all these analyses, AI tools are also able to make suggestions upon their research and this can be helpful to designers to gain insights on aspects to the website they should include of optimize. AI is also able to conduct testing. This can help a web designer in the end stages of the creating process of a website because AI is able to test the website's functionality and flag down any problems for the web designer to fix. AI can even suggest how the designer can fix the problem as well which saves time and focus.

The role of web designers is very crucial to an online business's success because they, as the designers are the ones in charge of creating a platform that customers are attracted towards. This includes creating a visually appealing platform that will attract and keep visitors, optimizing website functions, and making sure that the design is responsive and accessible across several platforms. Also, as I said in another blog post, branding is very important to businesses and companies as well. A part in a web designers' role is to establish branding and that is through the visuals and functionality of the website or online platform being designed.
Web designers should familiarize themselves with creating online businesses because we live in a time where most things are moving to online places. In a world where technology is advancing at really fast rates, it doesn't really make any sense for a business to lack an online presence. Web designers listen to the wants and needs of their clients and working according to what is discussed. Web design doesn't only play a crucial role in business but also holds importance to marketing and research as well. Designers do this by, shaping the mood of a company through the design of it and attracting many opportunities for transactions to be made. Research also holds a big part in design because, how is a successful business creating if the designers and producers don't know anything about their target? this is done through creating user personas, testing, prototyping, and even interviews. In a world where most things are moving to a digital platform, we should too! In order to create an identity online two basic things to start are needed: a website of your own, and social media. A website is essentially your own corner of the world wide web. It can be accessed by anyone with the link and can be a great way to look professional online and create good first impressions with possible employers. Imagine trying to find a product from a company with no website. Where are you going to find more information on them? What does the lack of a website say about the company itself? Not a great look, right? With a website, people moving into the work world can show off their awesome skills and experience to possible employers, in the form of portfolios, online galleries (for artists) and many other things. Social media is characterized by the various, info, video, and picture sharing applications. Social media helps brands connect with their audiences, attract younger consumers and communicate what the target audience likes and doesn't like. For personal accounts, employers are able to communicate with them via DMs and those possible employees are able to do the same. For these reasons, companies and people should use both websites and social media to create online presences.
Unfortunately, there are downsides to each but usually, the good outweighs the bad. Sometimes websites are hard for employers and consumers to find. The web is a giant place and sometimes things get lost. Sometimes websites don't mix with other browsers either. It might look perfect on Google but distorted on Microsoft Bing or from phone to desktop. Social media might also have the same 'getting lost problem' social media is really popular so it might be harder to find the right account. As well as getting 'lost' and having difficulties getting to desired accounts, social media in the worst cases can get hacked and steal information which is not at all what anyone wants. This, however, is a rare occurrence because the innovation of technology has optimized such things. In designing, the term elements of design are a very frequent term. There's seven main ones that every interface designer has to really understand and use in their day-to-day work. Those are:
1. Shape 2. Colour 3. Form 4. Lines 5. Texture 6. Typography 7. Space To really see them in action, let's take a look at my favorite website, Amazon! We can see the use of shapes in the platform of the website. All their products are organised in boxes and rectangles allowing a modern and sleek look to the website. Colour is used in the branding of blue and orange. The colours, being opposite on the colour wheel adds a contrasting effect to the platform, making the site easier to read along with adding aesthetics. Lines are seen in the logo in addition to everything else. With the arrow pointing from A to Z, the use of the line emphasizes the fact that amazon has everything a user will need. Typography is used on the website too with clearly categories the products offered and changing fonts and font sizes with more major titles. An example of this is on the home page where they show past purchases under the big title: Buy Again but the titles of the products in that category are a lot smaller than the main title. Lastly, the use of space is seen on the website where all the categories meet. If not, the platform would look a lot more crowded and probably overwhelming for a user. In conclusion, these elements are definitely necessary in a design situation and in looking at the ways websites used them, we will begin to understand the concepts deeper. Accessibility and inclusivity in a growing world are really important across all stages of society. This includes the online part of the world too. For online platforms and interfaces, there have been guidelines and laws set concerning the need for accessibility online. They have been organised into 8 steps to achieve inclusive web design. If there was a need to reduce this list to just three simple steps, I think I would include Step One: Define Accessibility, Step Two: Don't Create Pressure and Step Three: Relay with developers.
Imagine trying to create an inclusive online platform to a public with different thoughts, ideas, abilities, and ways of life without knowing what accessibility and inclusivity was. It would be pretty hard to create anything substantial and within the guidelines. Understanding what we wish to achieve can act as a foundation to a house. It can help in making those wishes would come true which is why defining accessibility is the first step. The second step would be, 'Don't Create Pressure' because when anyone - especially those with cognitive or physical disabilities - are under pressure, it can create a negative experience for users. This to me, seems to umbrella a lot of the other steps. For example, the original step three talks about developing better colour contrast. When two things are colored in a way that makes the platform hard to see or distracting, unnecessary pressure is added to the situation. Another example of this is in the original step 8: Choose Simple Gestures. If anyone has to spend way too much time clicking buttons to get to where they want to be, frustration and anxiety add up, creating pressure and a bad experience online. Lastly, step three would be to Relay with developers. Being able to get expert feedback from an experienced individuals is good. Especially when they can advocate for the voices of users with disabilities. The ideas of those developers add to the betterment of the website and overall, helps to create a more accessible and inclusive space online. What do you see when you hear the words, "hamburger menu". It's probably of a juicy beef patty under lettuce, tomatoes, sautéed onions and mushrooms with an unhealthy amount of butter and a whole lot of sauce. Unfortunately, that's not what we're talking about here. A hamburger menu doesn't really have anything to do with food. Instead, it's an organization and space saving method for online platforms. Usually in the form of a three lined icon, hamburger menus are really good for adding a clean and neat quality to online platforms. For example, Microsoft Bing would look really messy and unorganised if everything was on the page. Hamburger menus also make platforms look more professional. Imagine you are an employer and are looking for a company to hire to do some work for you. When you get on the website, it has all these really awesome features and abilities but they're all over the webpage and it's pretty overwhelming. When the website looks disorganised, it might reflect similar characteristics in the employees at the company as well which would probably make you find another company to hire. These icons are recognised universally now too, which will make websites easy to use all over the world as opposed to having someone struggling, trying to find the features of a website that displayed them in another way. In all, hamburger icons help websites with appearance, organisation, and accessibility for these reasons.

When thinking about launching a company or business, one must take branding into deep consideration. This is because the brand of the company is subjectively the most important part of a business. When out in the big wide world of commerce, business owners are not just selling a product; they're selling an experience, a vibe, or a feeling. Brands help companies stand out among competitors. For example, Nike. It's common knowledge that they sell shoes, but it's more than just that; it's about empowerment, athleticism, and pushing your limits as seen in the advertisements. Imagine if they just sold shoes without the swoosh symbol or the, "Just Do It" slogan. The company probably wouldn't be the same or as appealing as it was before. This means that companies technically could just sell a product but, having a strong brand gives an added quality. As web designers, diving into those brand details is crucial. It's not just putting a website together; it's also crafting an online presence that reflects the essence and deeper meaning/mission of the brand. This can be compared to an announcer setting the stage before a guest speaker starts their presentation. In conclusion, taking branding into consideration will make designs resonate with a target audience.
Digital citizenship is characterized by the ability to exist on and navigate through the internet. As the world continues to advance, giving us something almost like a second layer to the world, we must learn how to use it. Digital citizenship is important because it makes sure of security online and helps to unite humans as a population. When the conversation of digital citizenship and what it means to be a digital citizen comes up, most first think about password protection. Protecting passwords and personal information online in general, is very important and knowing the skills that is brought with the teachings for digital citizenship can help with just that. In addition, digital citizenship and practicing such can unite humans as a population because in order to exist and navigate through the internet, communication must be involved. This can be through online chat services or question boxes provided on websites. A big feature of the online world is being able to share things publicly for anyone to see. Posting online can bring both positivity and negativity into the environment. In an ideal situation, online posts would be lighthearted and kind. They would be the types of things that unites a group of people together and makes way for positive change but that isn't always the case. People on the internet may use its flaws to their advantage by using certain applications to harm others. This could be through cyberbullying, stealing or selling personal information, or fabricating images showing people in bad light. With all that been said, it's important to consider digital citizenship and what it encompasses in all online affairs. In doing things like that, we are able to truly understand what it means to be a good digital citizen. |
